One couple was working with their sliding door open when a calico casually wandered into the living room. They figured she would look around, satisfy her curiosity, and eventually leave. Apparently, nobody had explained that plan to the cat.
They did everything responsible accidental cat owners should do. They checked for a microchip, posted around, and tried to find an owner. Nobody claimed her, and their unexpected houseguest wasn't exactly pacing by the door waiting to return to her old life. She was perfectly comfortable right where she was.
That presented a slight problem: neither of these people had ever owned a cat.
Both had experience with dogs, so suddenly becoming feline pawrents came with some hesitation. Ash handled that by giving them approximately two days to fall completely in love with her.
One of her new hoomans somehow spent around $400 on their unplanned roommate almost immediately. Ash, meanwhile, settled in like she had been preparing for indoor life all along. She happily accepted some unseasoned chicken, found herself a comfortable place to nap, and waited while her new hooman headed out to buy food and a litter box. She certainly wasn't acting like a cat with plans to leave anytime soon.
She has since been named Ash Monday after the day she appeared, and her formerly dog-person pawrents are completely smitten.
We have to respect her technique. No shelter, no adoption application, no awkward meet-and-greet. Ash saw an open sliding door, walked inside, and gave two unsuspecting hoomans a crash course in cat ownership.
The Cat Distribution System didn't even bother with delivery this time. The package walked through the door herself.
